TEHRAN – “The Jakarta Method: Washington's Anticommunist Crusade and the Mass Murder Program that Shaped Our World” by American journalist and writer Vincent Bevins has recently been published in Persian.

Qoqnus is the publisher of the book translated by Shahriar Khajian. 

Originally published in 2020, the book is a compelling exploration of the U.S. government's brutal campaign against communism during the Cold War.

The book focuses particularly on the events that unfolded in Indonesia in 1965, where a military coup led to the massacre of hundreds of thousands of suspected communists and their sympathizers. Bevins uncovers the role played by the United States in instigating and supporting these atrocities, revealing the true extent of its involvement in shaping global history.

Through extensive research and interviews, Bevins sheds light on the hidden agenda of the CIA, which actively supported and facilitated the violent purge of leftists in Indonesia as part of its broader anti-communist strategy. This approach, known as the "Jakarta Method," involved fostering military dictatorships in several countries to suppress communism and install pro-U.S. governments. Bevins argues that the methods employed in Indonesia laid the groundwork for similar campaigns in countries like Chile, Brazil, and Argentina, resulting in countless deaths, disappearances, and human rights abuses throughout the Cold War era.

By delving into declassified documents and personal testimonies, Bevins challenges the prevailing narrative that frames the Cold War as a noble struggle against a menacing communist threat. Instead, he exposes the sinister underbelly of U.S. foreign policy, highlighting the consequences of its interventionist tactics. The book serves as a powerful indictment of the moral compromises made by the U.S. government in its quest to maintain dominance and suppress alternative ideologies.
